This wiring diagram, using conventional military symbols, shows the outline structure of 51st Highland Division in 1944. The top box show the Division (xx), the cross straps in the box indicating infantry and the designation number on the left (51) and the abbreviated name (Hi) on the right.
Below are the three brigades (x), also infantry with their number on the left.
Below each brigade are its three infantry battalions
(shown by a double vertical line)
For the full structure symbols would be added for the other divisional brigade units.
